Non-Fermi Liquid Behaviour, the BRST Identity in the Dense Quark-Gluon Plasma and Color Superconductivity

چکیده
At sufficiently high baryon densities, the physics of a dense quark-gluon plasma may be investigated through the tools of perturbative QCD. This approach has recently been successfully applied to the study of color superconductivity, where the dominant di-quark pairing interaction arises from one gluon exchange. Screening in the plasma leads to novel behaviour, including a remarkable non-BCS scaling of TC , the transition temperature to the color superconducting phase. Radiative corrections to one gluon exchange were previously considered and found to affect TC . In particular, the quark self-energy in a plasma leads to non-Fermi liquid behaviour and suppresses TC . However, at the same time, the quark-gluon vertex was shown not to modify the result at leading order. This dichotomy between the effects of the radiative corrections at first appears rather surprising, as the BRST identity connects the self-energy to the vertex corrections. Nevertheless, as we demonstrate, there is in fact no contradiction with the BRST identity, at least to leading log order. This clarifies some of the previous statements on the importance of the higher order corrections to the determination of TC and the zero temperature gap in color superconductivity. Aspects of Cold Dense Quark Matter
This thesis is devoted to properties of quark matter at high density and (comparatively) low temperature. In nature matter under these conditions can possibly be found in the interior of (some) neutron stars. Under “normal” conditions quarks are confined in the hadrons. Under the extreme conditions in the core of a neutron star, however, the strong interaction between the quarks becomes weaker ...

We review the non-Fermi or marginal liquid behavior of a relativistic QED plasma. In this medium a quasiparticle has a damping rate that depends linearly on the distance between its energy and the Fermi surface. We stress that this dependence is due to the long-range character of the magnetic interactions in the medium. Finally, we study how the quark damping rate modifies the gap equation of c...
متن کاملGeneralized Ward identity and gauge invariance of the color-superconducting gap
Due to asymptotic freedom of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) the strong coupling constant g becomes small at large momentum [1]. In cold, dense quark matter, the typical momentum scale is of the order of the quark chemical potential μ. Consequently, at asymptotically large densities, where μ ≫ ΛQCD, quark matter is a weakly coupled system. In this case, the dominant interaction between two quarks ...

Cooper’s theorem [1–3] implies that if there is an attractive interaction in a cold Fermi sea, the system is unstable with respect to formation of a particle-particle condensate. In QCD, single-gluon exchange between quarks of different color generates an attractive interaction in the color-antitriplet channel [4]. Thus, it appears unavoidable that color superconductivity occurs in dense quark ...

In this talk I will discuss a recently proposed color superconducting phase of asymmetric quark matter where the up and down quark have different chemical potential, being in chemical equilibrium with electrons. Using Schwinger-Dyson equations derived from an effective theory of low-energy quasiparticles, we examine both the case of an effective four Fermi interaction (appropriate for intermedi...
